Novice or experienced, buying a new fishing reel today is not necessarily a simple task. The selection of reels and rods available is very large. Choosing a specific fishing reel and matching rod for a certain type of fishing should not be done in haste. With the price range of fishing reels and rods, a lot of money can be spent on a balanced outfit. Buying an expensive fishing reel and matching rod that proves to be a wrong choice for your favorite type of fishing can make you grumpy!
What type of fishing will you be doing the most with the fishing reel and matching rod? Take the time to do some homework about fishing reels and matching rods available for your type of fishing. There are a lot of questions to ask and be answered. Think outside the box regarding every question. You need to consider the smallest fish to the largest fish you may encounter with the fishing reel and matching rod. Visit with experienced fishermen about the fishing equipment they have selected and why they selected it. Visit with fishing reel repair persons about equipment you may be considering.
A quality fishing rod can cost you as much or more than the fishing reel of your choice. What rod(s) match and most of all balance in your hand(s) with the design and size of reel you are considering. Should the fishing rod be a one piece or a two piece? One piece fishing rods are preferable but transporting a long one piece fishing rod can be a problem. If you purchase a fishing reel without a rod, be sure and take your fishing reel with you when you go shopping for a matching fishing rod.
